Baseball In The West It's interesting to think that at one time baseball teams out west travelled by stagecoach, or that people like Geronimo and Jesse James might have attended a baseball game. www.historynet.com/baseball-in-the-west-2/On March 22, 1877, the National League published the first league wide schedule in history.

On July 6, 1929, the Cardinals beat the Phillies 28 to 6 which are the most runs the Cardinals have scored in a game.
The most runs scored at Sportsman's Park by any St. Louis team was by the Browns on August 18, 1951, when they beat the Tigers 20 to 9.
The most home runs the Cardinals hit in a game is 7. They did that 3 times, 1940, 1996 and 2023.

In 1910 Ty Cobb and Nap Lajoie were battling it out for the American League batting title. Ty Cobb sat out the last game of the season, believing his slight lead over Lajoie, of the Cleveland Naps, would hold up unless Lajoie had a near perfect day at the plate in St. Louis.
However, the Browns players decided to help Lajoie win the title over the unpopular Cobb. Browns' manager Jack O'Connor went along with the plan, since the game would have no bearing on the pennant race. O'Connor ordered rookie third baseman Red Corriden to play on the outfield grass. This all but conceded a hit for any ball Lajoie bunted.
Lajoie bunted 5 straight times down the third base line and made it to first easily. On his last at bat, Lajoie reached base on an error, officially giving him a hitless at bat. O'Connor and coach Harry Howell tried to bribe the official scorer, a woman, to change the call to a hit, even offering to buy her a new wardrobe.
Cobb won the batting title by just a few thousandths of a point over Lajoie. O'Connor and Howell were fired and banned from baseball for life.
