People often overlook this aspect when discussing tariffs: I once worked at a factory in St. Louis that produced aluminum parts for the military, sports equipment, and more. That plant had a strike and rightfully so. The plant was closed and the products made in that plant are now made in Mexico. American workers can not compete with the wages etc. of workers in Mexico. Again, notice that I mentioned that some of our military parts are being made in Mexico instead of the US.
There was a plant, I believe, in O'Fallon, MO, that made garbage bags. It moved to Mexico. The US is constantly losing jobs to Mexico and other countries. We have trade deals that hurt American workers. While American workers have to realize that they can price themselves out of jobs, companies should not have such a compelling case to move their plants to other countries.
