I don’t get the craziness about Taylor Swift I worked for one of the Music companies that had a bunch of supply chain MBAs take it over. They ended up moving a big chunk of production to Mexico. Springsteen told them to pound sand and refused to have a single unit made outside of the US. And then other labels demanded a discount because “Mexico is Cheaper.” The company ended up moving back all the production. Best crash and burn ever.

I don't think that Taylor Swift appeals to the like of your or me. Her appeal like many artists today, is to a very specific demographic, which in my opinion works against the idea that they should be considered trend setting in the music industry. Same thing with Beyoncé, Since she doesn't write her music or play any instruments as far as I know, she is strictly a performer. At least TS writes her own music and plays an instrument. Since American Idol and the other contest shows became a thing, the American music industry has been on a deep slide. It has been a long time since I heard a new band and like more than one or two songs.

I think that the main appeal of Springsteen for me, is as a song writer, and he is at his best when it is just him playing an acoustic guitar. Nebraska is one of my favorite albums by him and I prefer his acoustic versions of his hits like Born to Run, or Atlantic City over the full band.
