Two years ago, the sports media spread rumors that Lincoln Riley was leaving Oklahoma for LSU (LSU never talked to him -- they signed their target in Notre Dame's Brian Kelly). It was also discussed that Lincoln Riley was afraid to play in the SEC, as his Oklahoma team (the Big Fish in the small pond of the Big 12) would usually get defeated in post season bowl games against top SEC teams.
Hence, Riley jumped ship and went to California. The interesting thing though -- he's still afraid to play in the SEC!

does he not know he's now in the Big 16? He's gonna play big time football schools now. Unless they give him a lot of money to buy players, he's not going to do well. His first year at USC (with an inherited roster) he was 11-3 and then lost to Tulane (not SEC caliber) in the Cotton Bowl. Last year, he was 8-5. It's no wonder he's afraid of LSU -- who has a really questionable defense. BTW -- he's now going to face 18 "Big Ten" teams, so they still have to play some good teams like Michigan. They end the season with Notre Dame, who was a better team than Riley's USC team (and stole LSU's highly rated offensive coordinator).

it was just a few short years ago Riley was the next big thing; now, not so much Like any profession, there's not that many that reach to the level of Nick Saban, Woody Hayes, Bear Bryant, Joe Paterno, Bud Wilkinson, or Mizzou's Gary Pinkel. Those men took young men and not only taught them how to play football, but how to be a respectable man. Drinkwitz seems to have the ability to be one who can join the upper levels, much like Georgia's Kirby Smart or LSU's Brian Kelly. I think Riley was overrated, and we'll see if he can last now that USC is in the Big 18. The real issue that all coaches have to face now is the NIL and paying of players. I hope it hasn't ruined college football...

Now USC fans are whining that they end their season playing Notre Dame!
The next few years will likely show that Lincoln Riley isn't in the league of Joe Paterno, Bobby Bowden, Bear Bryant, or the present day top coaches like Georgia's Kirby Smart or LSU's Brian Kelly.

The ole miss series is canceled there is uncertainty as to how many conference games the SEC will have in the future….it may go to nine…. With SC headed to the Big 10, both schools wanted flexibility there is also uncertainty as to the SEC rule of a power 5 game requirement if the conference schedule goes to nine…
