Wondering if anyone has watched the new series about the 8th air force called "Masters of the Air" and if so, what was your take on it? I believe its a Tom Hanks / Steven Spielberg production and portrays the story of the B-17 bomber crews during WW2 in Europe.
Articles I had read about it before it was released claimed it would tell the story of the flyers much like "Band of Brothers" did for the infantry. I just finished watching it recently and while it was good, it just didn't seem to have the same overall quality as Band of Brothers did. I have a real interest in old warbirds and the 8th in general and was really looking forward to this series, but it came off a little weak.
If you've seen it, what did you think?

The problem is when they made BoB, they absolutely set the bar so high, I don’t think anything could come close again. I remember when the Pacific came out I was so excited, and while it was very good, it was no BoB. But, I am looking forward to the Masters of the Air though and the B17 is my favorite aircraft so anything associated with it is an automatic win in my book.

I too am a huge fan of the B-17 and try to make a point to go see them when they come to air shows at Spirit in Chesterfield. There's something about those big radial engines that produce a sound that is best described as motor music. 36 cylinders producing a total of 4800 hp is something to be seen and heard.

I watched the series recently, the scenes featuring bombing raids and aerial combat were exciting and well done. Overall it was a big let down, I was expecting more considering the pedigree of those behind making it. I thought it was disjointed and it often failed to hold my attention to the point where I'd fall asleep. That never happened while watching BOB or The Pacific multiple times. 4/10
