While it may have seemed like an eternity, the August "Fall" football camps are wrapping. Some college games are played this Saturday, with the SEC, Big 10, and other conferences returning to play this week starting Thursday night. Here's a look at the early games (all times Central):
The competition kicks off with #10 Florida State playing Georgia Tech at 11:00 am on ESPN. This game is being played in Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland. Florida State is a 10 point favorite.
Other games on Sunday are Montana State @ New Mexico at 3:00 pm on FS1. MTST is a 13 1/2 point favorite.
SMU plays at Nevada at 7:00 pm on CBSSN. SMU is a 25 point favorite.
Delaware State is at Hawaii at 11:00 for Hawaii fans, with Hawaii being favored by 40 1/2 points.

The ramblin wreck from Georgia Tech wins the season opener with a walk off field goal over 10th ranked Florida State.
another example of why preseason rankings are useless.

Perhaps Karma is biting Florida State in the ass after so many players opted out of their bowl game against Georgia last season. Anyway, I agree with your take on preseason ranking. It won't be until serious conference play happens that the polling will really matter.

I thoroughly enjoying watching Georgia demolish that team after they bitched, whined, and moaned how they belonged in the College Football Playoff. It’s that much more hilarious that they followed up last year’s curb-stomping with a season opening loss to a lesser Georgia (GTech) team. 😆🤣😂

I also hate this opting out of bowl game nonsense. If college athletics does not feature sportsmanship as one of its primary functions then it just needs to stop pretending it's not some professional league and let it make its full transition.

They already are professional. I posted a link to a GA Tech player agreeing to play for them in exchange for $800K, which is about the NFL minimum salary last season. The NCAA should link a big chunk of the their NIL play (at least 50%) to participating in their bowl game, if their team makes it that far.
