Although the people that took advantage of this are stupid a wrong the bank is also at fault. It is their software that was fucked up. You leave your door open and you are the one responsible for the damage. If a teller makes a mistake and deposits $50,000 of Billy's money into your account, is it your money now? Can you spend it? The problem is that the Chi-Comm's Tik-Tok program spread the news, just like they told kids how to steal Kia's, and America is full of idiots...

You leave your door open and you are the one responsible for the damage. Everyone who fraudulently took the money from the glitch should have two weeks to return the balance in full - but with no interest or penalities. If they do not return all funds, they should be prosecuted for wire fraud. Chase's punishment is that they will never be able to recover 100% of the monies stolen because of their negligent behavior. Regardless, someone at Chase is going to get fired.

If the bank makes an errors then they will rightfully suffer for it. Is the money mine? No. If I were to spend some of it while not knowing that I had done so (e.g charged somehting that woudl have otherwise overdrawn my account), could they penalize me? No. Would I need to pay it back? Yes.

Nobody in their right mind thinks they should get to keep it. If they don't pay it back in a reasonable timeframe, they should be charged with wire fraud.

Why should they have a time-frame to pay it back? When you know that you don't have 20k in your account, write yourself a check, and take out 10k you are knowingly committing theft and fraud. This isn't some "whoops someone accidentally deposited 300 dollars in my account, this is them actively participating in fraud.

That's being pretty generous and also penalizes Chase for their shoddy controls.

I don't know if TikTok has an liability in this but I would think that allowing/enabling a criminal enterprise to exist on your platform would get you some legal troubles.

We should allow China the same access to our markets as we have to theirs. Which means Tik Tok is gone. Most of their banks as well. No more land purchases and the land they have purchased must be divested within a year. In fact, if Chinese companies had to abide by the same rules in our country as American companies must in theirs, it would devastate the Chinese economy. So be it.

We should treat every foreign nation the same way they treat us. I'm tired of America getting screwed, and our politicians getting rich while they manage America's decline into a third world shithole.
