Posted this at the "Old Folks Home" in CT.
Still raining and blowing some here in SE ILL.
Canceled the first night of our local carnival.
I know there's some here that live closer in the path.
Hope those affected one way or another are safe.
But, "It can't rain all the time".

On a real sad note, I see the death toll from flooding is near 50.

Billy Joel and Sting were supposed to play at Busch last night. It was postponed to Sunday night. I mention this for a couple of reasons. First, the ticket market died yesterday and I could have gotten good seats for 50 bucks. However, I have to travel for work so I won't be in town Sunday night. My other point, when I walked out of a restaurant about 715 last night it was clear, and it was a perfect temperature. The wind portion that the OP talked about didn't reach STL until what, 10 or 11? And yeah, it got windy, but it wasn't that bad. I guess I'm whining about postponing the show. Oh well.
BTW, did you watch any of the coverage of the hurricane, especially before it made landfall? You know how the Weather Channel always finds the goofs who are gonna stay and ride it out because "I've been here 40 years, I"m fine." or "because God" (not insulting religion, it is a very common answer)........well, I have an update. Many of those people are now dead. I know we all hate the government and all but when they tell you to evacuate, evacuate.

Parts of East Tennessee and Western North Carolina are wiped out. It is not possible to drive on an interstate directly from one state to the other as the road or bridges have been washed away.

I saw a tweet earlier from someone in western N Carolina who said that, for this area, this is their Katrina.

To be fair, there are too many times where we are told to panic (of course, not a word they will use), and then nothing really happens. What ends up happening is people evacuate their property and then aren't allowed to return for a period of time which ends up being too long. With regards to the media specifically, it is comical that reporters from these news agencies go out to the 'life threatening' danger to simply report on it and have the nerve to question why those who actually have a real-life stake in the situation are staying. To bring it local... When a snowstorm hits here, "Stay off the road, don't drive if you don't have to! Now let's go to our Storm Tracker driving down I-44 for absolutely no reason other than to show you that, yes, it is snowing and road conditions are not great." I cannot take the media seriously when they say one thing and then do the complete opposite.

Amazing what the power of mother nature can do. Meanwhile, Kamala is fundraising in San Francisco and campaigning in Nevada. She doesn't have time for rural white people - or rural black people, either (unless they live in Haiti or Venezuela or some other third world shithole)...

You should move this to the "Politics and Politicians" forum or lock this thread now. Bedfordforrest actually has a thread there you can comment on. And in fact did comment on! Great job the moderators do here!

Why would anyone care? After all it's just more blood for the rituals. This is what these people truly died for.
The 'hurricane' was a classic case of a weaponized weather event, and how much better that they are getting at it.

I cannot take the media seriously when they say one thing and then do the complete opposite. I get what you are saying. If you live in the metro area you know all too well, especially in the spring, whenever the sky gets dark Steve Templeton will ruin whatever sporting event you are watching on CH 4. I don't think your comparison about snow and hurricanes is relevant. We have more than enough evidence over the course of decades that if the authorities tell you to evacuate, you should evacuate. Every single one of these bigger storms people ride it out. And then they invariably start calling 911 when the water reaches their nostrils. 911 can't help. These storms are just different beasts. If you choose to live by the water, awesome. 99% of the time I'm sure it's wonderful. Maybe the other 1% hop in the ole Honda and head away from the surge. It's not that complicated.
