First president to make it to 100. While Jimmy Carter had struggles during his president. He probably accomplished more after leaving office than any other president, and he is a fantastic person. Happy Birthday, Jimmy!

Happy Birthday, Jimmy! +1 I also think his wife was the classiest First Lady in my lifetime, a true Southern LADY!

Jimmy Carter is an outstanding Southerner. His presidency should rank in the lower middle. While not good, he did get deregulation passed that greatly helped the Reagan economy. He also appointed Paul Volcker to head the Federal Reserve, and he was the one finally able to wring inflation out of the economy.

Happy Birthday, Jimmy! Even more amazing, I believe he was diagnosed w/brain cancer almost a decade ago AND has been in hospice for well over a year! Normally, when I think hospice, I think death is just around the corner.

Carter is one of the few Presidents whose ratings has only gone up since he left office. While BCM is correct about regulation and Paul Volker, he's also had some bad domestic policies like his setting temperature regulations for federal buildings at 68°F in winter and 78°F in summer. He was a failure when it came to foreign policy for the most part, though -- especially giving away our Canal and backing the radial Islamists in Iran instead of the Shah, leading to our embassy being taken and our citizens being held hostage. His one saving grace was the Camp David Peace Accord between Egypt and Israel, ending decades of repeated warfare from the two nations. Carter is also best known for what he did after he left office by helping people in need instead of getting rich like Obama and the Clintons.

There's a big difference between H.W. Bush and his son W. Bush. The elder Bush was good on foreign policy. The son has to be one of the worst Presidents ever, and the biggest vote I've ever regretted casting. Carter's fatal flaw was inflation, which was a problem that faced not only him, but Ford and Nixon throughout the 70s. His response to the Iranian revolution and the hostage crisis is what finally doomed his administration.
