I am not great at recalling what movies came out around the same time, but upon googling ‘Best Year for Movies,’ 1939 came up as the BEST year, and 1997 was 2nd. I was rather surprised by that, so checked out what got released. DramasTitanic Good Will Hunting My Best Friend’s Wedding Selena The Devil’s Advocate Bookie Nights The Rainmaker As Good as it Gets ActionLA Confidential Air Force One Face/Off Con Air Spawn Science FictionMen in Black Starship Troopers 5th Element Contact Event Horizon ComedyLiar Liar Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery Bean AnimationPrincess Mononoke (*shrugs, but rated higher than the others on IMDB) Hercules HorrorI Know What You Did Last Summer Scream 2 Hell of a Sci-Fi Lineup! There’s more in there, however the ones listed were movies I’d seen (w/exception to Princess Mononoke that had the highest score)
