50.2% of the vote, 7.5k votes out of close to 3m was the margin of victory for the yes vote, razor thin. Wins in KC and STL and it's suburbs as well as Columbia carried it. The no vote lost heavily in rural counties. The campaign was heavily endorsed by Missouri's professional sports teams. All taxation is said to be going towards education services.
It means sportsbooks at the states 13 casinos as well as online wagering will soon become available, likely q2 of 2025. Only Oklahoma now of the neighboring states does not have legal sports wagering.
As a side note, the vote to pass a casino being built in Lake of the Ozarks failed.

I didn’t vote for it, but it wasn’t a passionate issue for me. I’m not against betting, not a hobby of mine, but I also didn’t like the b.s. about it helping schools. Cool Papa Con Your thread in Cards Talk finally got locked!

Like DJ Davis, sports betting is not an issue about which I am passionate; I cannot believe the ways people waste their money and then claim that politicians on the federal level have ruined their lives. At the same time, however, I imagine it makes watching sports more exciting. Being able to bet on sports is a personal freedom issue. On that, I am passionate. That's why I voted Yes on 2. The argument that we should support it because the money went to education was a joke. We've seen that game before. We know how it turns out, which is why we aren't able to bet on that outcome! Regarding the casino, the idea that it requires amending the state constitution is crazy. Why should I have a say living in St. Louis County on whether or not a casino gets built at the Lake of the Ozarks? If the people who live near it want it, that should be all that matters. Hell, nearly every gas station has slot machines in them now, although I guess they aren't technically slot machines? But they are.

I agree with you on sports gambling as a personal freedom and on a rare occasion I might want to make a $5 bet. Also, people are already betting in other states and off shore costing missouri millions in tax revenue. I have no idea why the casino in Lake of the Ozarks did not pass. I think it did have to be amendment because the original riverboat casino amendment. It needed to be on Missouri or Mississippi River.

I responded to his unprovoked attack in that thread, making fun of him likely not having money or being in debt. He emailed me! First time a poster has ever emailed me. He definitely sounds like a smart, successful financier!

Start calling him Donny and tell him you’re not interested in Steve Madden No, I made that comment and then he emailed me. Never DM’ed him at all. Before that, I had also quoted him in the Mod Pizza thread in food talk, but I was taking a shot at abubx, who he had been sparring with. I guess he’s so dumb, he took it as an insult against against him. I’ve since burned him a few more times in that thread. He’s so stupid, I just couldn’t resist.

I think it did have to be amendment because the original riverboat casino amendment. It needed to be on Missouri or Mississippi River. I understand why an amendment was required, but it is bizarre. And then for that amendment to lose while Amendments 2 and 3 passed (also throw in recreational weed) makes it even more bizarre IMO. Why should I care if the people living at the Lake of the Ozarks want to have a casino in their area? That is for them to decide. Not me. The one amendment out of the three aforementioned that was really locally focused failed. How does someone vote for Amendment 2 but then against Amendment 5?
