The left really has embraced making politics personal and living vicariously via politicians to control other people. You can see post after post on FB, Reddit, X from leftist and the personal language they are using towards people on the other side from them.
People on the right give what they get but it does not seem to be as personal.
A friend of mine went to a bar today wearing a Trump hat and someone asked them to take it off. When they said no they would not take it off the other person responded with "I don't want to see that hat".
Look how people like Stiffy have been posting for years, the language is that of "fighting words".
How can there be unity with people the personally hate you based on who you voted for or the policies you support?

How can there be unity with people the personally hate you based on who you voted for or the policies you support? I’m not shocked by the perpetually offended party. I know people thought it was a bad idea to have Roast Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe as a “speaker” at the Republican National Convention, but it was shear brilliance. One thing you can say about Trump, he knows his audience and even more, he knows his enemies. Their news cycles do nothing but froth over Trump and his rhetoric becomes “ you’re either in on the joke or you’re not.” They pissed away so much air time complaining about a joke about Puerto Rico… from a Roast Comic, they bitched and moaned about Arnold Palmer’s manhood for hours. What do you think the progressives did? Tuned the fuck out. He played them like a fiddle and the people who turned out were the ones laughing at the weenies who couldn’t take a joke. Here’s the problem with the left, when you’re outraged over everything, you minimize the real plights of the common people. Everyday expenses like groceries. He flip from women age 18-29. Why? No doubt their receipts at the checkout counter

Are you stumbling across these posts on Facebook, Reddit, and X or are you following someone who is searching for such posts and then re-posting them and that is how you are seeing them? For the life of me I cannot remember who said it at this time, but some comedian said something along the lines of if I know your politics and/or sexuality within the first 5 minutes of meeting you, you're an asshole and I don't like you. Your friend knew what he was doing. If I go by social media posts, then we apparently just averted civil war. I don't hate you. Most people who voted for Democrat candidates don't hate you either. There's no reason there cannot be unity with people who simply voted for a different party than you did. (In no way am I claiming that Biden and Harris weren't being divisive themselves. Biden had a golden opportunity, and he chose to cater to his left wing. Trump has a golden opportunity right now. We will see what happens.)

Have you been watching the responses on the various MSM? There are protest across this country where leaders of these protest vow to "fight." Late night TV hosts showed that they believe that this vote was personal and attacked those who voted for Trump. Social media is full of hatred for Trump voters. I have done my best to be someone who avoids talking politics and ascribed to live and let live. I am changing my mind on that. In fact, I have let comments slide from those I associate with that offend me. I have now decided to go on the offensive. I am a White male. That should not matter but it does. I will forever be in attack mode from now on. F them. I've had enough. So, I guess what I am saying is that I will meet fire with fire which lowers me somewhat from a standard I have held for so long to look the other way or to turn the other cheek. I apologize for the rambling.

This politics as personal attacks is not new, has been going on since Obama, but is reaching a new level.

Some old college associates, including my college roommate, have completely melted down. These are people in their early 60's and should know better than to have such embarrassing emotional outbursts.

No, I haven't been watching the responses on the various MSM. I'm sure they are hysterical. But the MSM is becoming less and less relevant as time goes on. Late night TV hosts are now just another outlet some people go to rather than what they used to be. There are too many options. Late night TV hosts and the MSM just aren't influential. Who watches the Tonight Show? Who watches CNN? People do, but it isn't what it was. Regarding social media: We should all know how social media works by now. The vast majority of people do not regularly post on social media. Of those who do, a small percentage of them make it to your 'feed'. My YouTube is filled with Gotham Chess videos, Game of Thrones clips, Shark Tank, and Piers Morgan videos. I have not stumbled across someone crying about the election. I have, however, seen many videos of others mocking that person. Since I like Piers Morgan's show (Ben Shapiro too), the algorithm has made some inferences about what other videos I might like... I never see the original video, I see the mocking video! Is that the same for you? If you are seeing the hatred of Trump voters in social media, it is either because you are actively looking for them, but more likely, you are following someone who is actively looking for and posting them so that you'll watch. With whom are meeting fire with fire? Some random liberal on TikTok?

They have been lied to for years and believe that trump is Hitler and is going to put them all in cages. There can be no unity with brainwashed individuals. You can only mock them mercilessly until they learn, if they are capable of learning, jury is still out on that.

With whom are meeting fire with fire? Some random liberal on TikTok? I could relate how my child was just treated but I won't. It was not good and I intend to treat those who treated her badly equally as badly. I do not have social media. I'll do my "meeting fire with fire" face to face. Typically when someone ask questions or brings up politics I try to end the conversation. When a relative brought up Trump and Project 2025, I did my best to educate them and then, left. I won't leave the next time. Growing up I was infamous in my family for my temper. I have worked so hard to change that. No longer will I do so.

Progressives are far more emotional than conservatives. Progressives basically see the federal government as "all seeing" deity. Where conservatives believe the big government take a back seat to family, religion etc.
