The guy is speaking as a 2nd source (at minimum). "He has heard reports of such things..." Me too!!! Many decades ago, when I was just a young airman in the USAF, the quiet nighttime air on the flight line was interrupted by the sound of an M-16 firing off a few rounds. Now, we seldom had much cause to shoot at things there in Nebraska, hardly a hotbed of subversive incursions on military property. But on this night, a security guard observed an alien spacecraft attempting to land near our alert aircraft pad. The vigilant guard managed to get a few rounds off, chasing the spacecraft away but in the process hitting some of the enlisted housing on base. This was in the mid-70's, when the usual cure for boredom was drugs.

By aliens, do you mean Salvadorans, Guatemalans, or Venezuelans?

By aliens, do you mean Salvadorans, Guatemalans, or Venezuelans? Calling to mind the question: Would space aliens be illegals?

It's been the case since human civilization started. As far as we know that is correct. I would hope that perhaps as we advance as a civilization, and our basic needs feel secure and less threatened, we could take more of a “United Federation approach” and seek out new life forms in peace, if we ever explore deep space. Yes, I know it’s a TV show. I just hope there is more to an advanced existence than for a total conquest of inferior civilizations.

While I have serious doubts about our ability to travel the stars, I would expect that the abundance of resources in asteroids and uninhabited planets would likely negate the need to conquer anyone. After all, that's what conquest here was all about.
