www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2024/04/17/americans-italians-first-red-tomato-sauce-pizza-historians/Personally I wasn't that impressed with the Pizza in Italy, and it was annoying that pasta dishes were so similar whatever city you were in. No mater where you were the dish with a particular noodle shape came with that same sauce. Not saying that the food wasn't good, particularly in Florence, just really not that innovative. I always thought that the claims for Italians and pizza were dubious at least for pizza as we think of it because tomatoes are not native to European and like the study shows, a lot of what we think of as Italian was brought over by GIs during WWII.

I thought the food was fantastic. The pizza was cooked differently—in a way that would never fly in the US. The dough and cheese werr first half cooked and then the ingredients were added (including meats and sausage) and cooked the rest of the way. I don’t know if the freshness of the ingredients allows them to serve potentially undercooked meats or if they don’t mind a serious case of the shits every now and then for better tasting food. I found their pizza tasty and greasy. And the only fucking dinner you can eat in Italy that takes less than two hours.

We loved the food in Italy. We were fortunate to be able to taste various meats, pizza, and all types of pasta dishes. We spent our time in Northern Italy in Milan, Lake Como, Florence, Venice, ...
