I like the idea of the day off after the Super Bowl, but President's Day has already been watered down to near pointlessness. Perhaps the NFL could tie it in somehow, like having all the living former Presidents supervise the coin toss or some such.
They are running this idea up the flag pole along with making another preseason game a regular season game, bringing it to 2/18. I like that. They could consider having a week off between the last (second) pre-season game and the opening weekend. That way, the last pre-season game isn't the farce it has become. The best preseason game was always the 2nd to last, as the final was all scrubs as no one wanted to get hurt.

The NFL already received enough government subsidies. Giving them a distinguished merit of National Holiday would only fuel their capacity to take more money. Now, if a private company sees an advantage of giving their employees that day off, more power to them. Would make for a great recruitment tool and possible workplace chemistry they’re all raging about.
