Child accidentally shoots, kills 4-year-old girl in north St. LouisST. LOUIS – A child accidentally shoots and kills a four-year-old girl in north St. Louis early Tuesday morning.
Authorities are investigating the incident as an accidental shooting. It apparently took place as multiple young children were inside a home with no adults there. A city police spokesperson said the department is heartbroken over what has happened.
The shooting unfolded around midnight with police rushing to a shooting call on the 700 block of Thrush in the Baden neighborhood, basically between Hall Street and North Broadway in north St. Louis city.
Police spokesperson Mitch McCoy says when officers got there, they found a 4-year-old girl who had been shot and was barely breathing. Officers rushed the child to the hospital in their patrol SUV.
McCoy says one officer conducted CPR on the child while another officer drove the vehicle. Tragically though, the little girl died at the hospital.
McCoy says that while it’s early in the investigation, it appears that four children, all under the age of 10, were inside the home at the time of the shooting, but no adults were at the home.
Police believe that somehow one of the children got ahold of a gun and accidentally shot the 4-year-old. One of the children in the home called 911.
“Let me be very clear; this is a tragedy. We are heartbroken,” McCoy said. “No officer expects to arrive on a scene and see this. And our officers tried to save that child’s life.”
The name of the child who was killed has not yet been released. McCoy says another child had an abrasion to their face. It’s unclear right now if that is related to the shooting.
At this point, there is no word of any arrests in the case. The name of the child who was killed also has not yet been released.
So far, we have no word of anyone in custody. McCoy says police will share updates as the investigation develops.fox2now.com/news/missouri/child-accidentally-shoots-kills-4-year-old-girl-in-north-st-louis/Deepest condolences on the loss of this baby but until people are arrested AND IMPRISONED for not having their guns locked away, not to mention leaving their children home alone, it will continue to happen! I don't want to hear any horseshit about "They've already lost so much". If they had locked up their gun, they wouldn't have lost anything!

What are the odds that the adult who possessed the firearm (not the kids themselves, obviously) wasn't legally entitled to possess a firearm? I'm guessing near 100%. If they were legally entitled to possess a gun, they obviously had zero training and/or respect for firearms. Gun or not, who leaves four young children home alone around midnight? That alone should be grounds for CPS to get involved. No responsible parent does that, but baby factories and sperm donors do.

Everyone, no matter their gender, race, political views, should be outraged but guaranteed some clown somewhere will try and blame the damned gun. The entire scenario had tragedy written all over it!

I'm not excusing their behavior, I'm explaining why this so often happens. People who flaunt the laws regarding firearm possession are exactly the type of people who tend to treat guns as if they were toys.

I should have replied to you before going off on my rant! The really sad part about it is no one learns from these tragedies!

Sad for the thousands that die every year from guns in America.

It's a terrible shame that incidents like this have been normalized. Thousands every year and it's just treated as the cost of doing business. We need reform in a bad way.

How do you "reform" a human being to not reach for a gun every time they get butt-hurt over some silly thing, since it's the humans doing the pulling of the trigger?

You stop the human from getting the gun if they're unstable. We've been over this. it's a uniquely American problem. Eventually enough people will have their lives destroyed over this idiotic policy of guns, guns and more guns. It's only a matter of time.

What new law would you propose that would have stopped this shooting? I don't know that it would, but making people responsible is a step in the right direction, don't you think? Make people take safety courses before their purchase. Emphasize that they are responsible for what happens with their gun. Stop people from buying trunk loads of guns and gun shows and then selling them on the corner to unsavory person's. Make it a law that guns must be locked up when not worn on their person. There's a lot that could be done.

They shouldn't have been allowed to have a gun. They weren't responsible enough to own one. you want to disarm the entire black population?
