To be clear, I have held the belief for over 20 years that the Democratic Party is all but irredeemable as an institution and has no interest or capability to adjust itself into any kind of constructive contributor to the course of public affairs. But -- and it's still, very very soon -- in the immediate aftermath of last night's decisive rejection of their record and agenda, I have seen a handful of committed Democrats who describe themselves as liberal, progress, or both stating that this outcome should be met with an honest, critical reflecting on what their party means and what it offers to the citizens of the United States. But so far, it's only a handful. At the moment, most of the Democratic commentators and influencers I have seen and heard are still in denial about what this election means to themselves. As for the country, all I can tell is that most of them believe today that the answer for them moving forward is "more of the same, but only louder." OK, that's out of my control but to that small group of reasonable people -- with whom I still disagree with on most issues -- I will offer this as evidence that they are correct about the need for self-assessment and self-reflection -- cite this as striking visual as part of their argurment: www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/11/05/us/elections/results-president.html(NOTE: YOU NEED TO CLICK ON THE "Shift from 2020" button to see the graphic I'm referring to) This above link is the "political shift" map in the NY Times, which is a county by county visualization of where the voters have moved in 2024 as compared to 2020. It's incredible. The Republicans did not win everywhere in this election, but the DIRECTION of political adjustment -- the "Red Shift" -- in this map is univerasal. In in every sector depicted -- EVEN IN BLUE STATES -- the move has been decisively to the rightward direction. This also crosses demographic boundaries; black voters, latino voters, young voters all moved to the right from where they were just four years ago. So, as the "more of the same, only louder" faction of the Democratic Party gears up for the fight, I can only suggest: how far further in this direction do you think the citizenry will move if you do listen to the sober members of your own party OR the American people themselves.

I found the latest map of the US. 90% is now red and growing.
Not sure why the Dems are tone deaf about that

My facebook feed has been so polarizing. Hardly anyone toeing the middle of the road. Tons of people crying about the loss of democracy, loss of faith in the US, complaining about comparisons to the rise of the 3rd Reich, etc. etc.
On the other side, pure trolling and jubilation w/one lamenting about baby killing

If you think we can be friends, we can't. I hate Trump and I hate you." Wow!!!

Not necessarily in a rainbow background, but I’ve seen this several times, today. I thought they were supposed to be the party of “Joy?”

You say that hardly anyone is toeing the middle of the road, but I bet the vast majority of people who would show up on your Facebook feed didn't post anything about the election at all, so they aren't going to show up on your feed. By that metric, almost everyone is in the middle of the road regardless of how they voted.

I assumed people would understand my comment was specifically about reactions to the election results and did not include viral dog videos, reactions to the abuse game, nor what Junior did with school supplied macaroni. So, you are correct, a number of people did wish my buddy Nick ‘Happy Birthday,’ and people did heart a post with an obituary. Some of them may have done that while reacting to the election results, too

So, you are correct, a number of people did wish my buddy Nick ‘Happy Birthday,’ and people did heart a post with an obituary. Some of them may have done that while reacting to the election results, too You can quantify this if you want to. You have x number of Facebook friends. How many of those Facebook friends posted anything about the election? We will call that number y. Now divide y by x and provide the percentage. 1 - y/x is the percentage of people who didn't post anything about the election on Facebook. At what percentage does that equate to more than hardly anyone, in your opinion? What type of people run home after eating at a restaurant and write a review? Well, they either really liked the place, or they really hated it. AKA the polarized people. Those who ate there and either slightly liked the place or slightly disliked it do not feel a need to post a review. What type of people run home after watching a movie and write a review? Well, they probably either really like the movie, or they really hated it. The internet and social media tend to amplify the extreme viewpoints because those who aren't so polarized don't feel a need to post anything. Why would politics be any different?

I thought they were supposed to be the party of “Joy?” My sister posted that on FB. She is a good person and a big advocate for gay people. I avoid bringing up politics around her and her husband. We all get along fine. I'll give her a pass.

I thought they were supposed to be the party of “Joy?” The strangest thing is that it says people “should be treated equally regardless of race, religion, color, creed, or sexual orientation”, yet they are only deleting their friends who have a different opinion and belief than them. Do they realize what the word “creed” means? It means a set of beliefs or opinions. So, if they are removing only their friends who have a different belief than them, then they are NOT treating people equally.

Abortion is a different story. Men would never fully understand what goes on in women's mind about the rights. We have to respect their feeling.

My mother, my wife, all my daughter's, and every woman in my wife's family (she's an immigrant) have all said killing your baby during pregnancy is wrong. It seems what's going on in their mind is very similar to what's going on in my mind.
