I'm not going to hold my breath. I watched a clip of a CNN exchange were one of the talking heads talked how the public rejected men in women's sports. Instantly, one of the leftist was offended, calling the guy a bigot and demanding that he accept "the truth" that a "trans woman is a woman." The rest of the panel shook their head, agreeing with the offended leftist spokesman for the Alphabet Mafia. As long as the Dems are going to continue to push their identity politics, push sex changes on children, have their Hamasian Democrats protesting on campuses, and fight to keep illegal immigrants in America (you can expect the Dems to file lawsuits over those issues), I don't see how you'll get a "new Democrat" like Bill Clinton to come back into power without supporting all that identity politics that the voters rejected. Remember, it was Obama who rejected the working class in favor of the "future of America" being the rich white elite liberals, minorities, and especially immigrants. Once Trump was "defeated" in 2020, the Dems acted like they had their mandate to force their open borders, criminal coddling, pro-trans woke agenda on America. Do you really think they will abandon those main policy positions of the radical left? Two words capt: George Gascon “Los Angeles County's newly elected district attorney said one of his first orders of business will be to regain the trust of the community after voters ousted first-term progressive District Attorney George Gascon on Tuesday, ending what critics deemed a failed progressive overhaul of the country's largest criminal justice system.”www.foxnews.com/us/los-angeles-da-elect-woke-predecessor-lost-trust-prosecutors-victims-rebuild-thatTwo more: London Breed. (SF Mayor deposed for similar reasons) That’s in California, the epicenter of left progressivism. Do you really think in the next national electoral cycle the prevailing Democratic mantra will be “what we desperately need are more criminal sensitive woke DAs and Mayors in our crime-ridden cities”? John Kasich said recently: it (wokism) is the tail that’s been wagging the dog, and it needs to stop. He’s right. And although it’s not stopped, and won’t be completely stopped, it does appear to be slowing down and voters are reevaluating its efficacy. Thanks Cardio. 69% of Californians voted for Prop 36, which reversed the "decriminalization" Prop 47 that made it misdemeanors to steal $950 or less. As Tip O'Neill said, "all politics is local." What I'm referring to, though, is a candidate that can win over the Democrat Party base for a national election. The base has moved extremely left to the extent that it doesn't represent most Americans (including you, IIRC our discussions of politics prior to the election). The "base of the party" is going to be more angry and energized with Trump in office. While the Dems may reject the "defund the police," do you think they'll agree with Trump that men shouldn't compete in women's sports or that no trans can be in the military? Will the Dems give up DEI and racial quotas? Those policies are going to happen in the next 4 years. I've heard James Carville's rant (I haven't read Dowd's article yet) and agree with Carville. He's still one of the best political advisors from the left, although he's often ignored by politicians (like Bill Clinton was ignored by Hillary's campaign) despite his wise advice.

As an addendum to my previous reply, the head of Texas Dem party resigned. Not only did Dems yet again fail to turn Texas blue, but he spoke the truth about Dems obsession with the trans movement. Look how quickly he was forced to apologize.

Look how quickly he was forced to apologize. Okay, there was an apology to those offended in the trans community. But it hardly signifies that the overwhelming majority of Democratic “commentators and influencers” have learned nothing from the recent shellacking and believe the future recipe for electoral success is simply doubling down on the same messages which produced a decisive loss to one of the most flawed candidates in presidential history. That appears to be the conclusion of the OP, but it sure doesn’t comport with the post election forensics with which I’m familiar. The Democrats have hemorrhaged their traditional working class constituency, and not just young white men but males of all races and ethnicities. That ongoing realignment is a serious problem for the party, one that must be addressed, not a complete jettisoning but requiring a clear shift in priorities away from the pet issues of the progressive left.

I agree that there are talking heads noting the problems. I just don't see the base listening to them, at least at the Presidential level. I guess the first test will be how hard the Dems fight Trump on legislation to ban transing of kids and kicking Trans people out of the military.
